Cabin Report | September 2021

Summer 2021 is a wrap!! We want to thank everyone for your ongoing support. Be sure to check back soon, as we lots more photos to come from Teen Week.

Thank You to Our Staff

Camp memories are still fresh; camp songs may still be ringing through your homes; and the Abby Counselors and friends are probably still a part of the story telling.  We hope so!!

Coming back together for camp this year had an added layer of excitement – and challenge. All staff members were very conscious of the Covid demands for extra caution and extra cleaning! All staff were excited to get back on site after being away last summer.

We want to give an extra shout out and THANK YOU to all our staff members. Our campers had what they were missing – an Abby summer! Our Directors, Victoria Murphy and Maddy Galway lead the team with their creativity, their energy!! And their leadership skills needed to keep a staff of many personalities and abilities working as a TEAM! Another great summer Maddy and Vic!!

Campers are active and hungry! THANK YOU to our cook, Maxine Casely and her assistant Codilyn Durdle! It’s a large job to keep everyone happy!

Our program coordinators, Carly Enman (Outdoor Life); Nathan Wright (Sports and Rec), Paige Lauwerijssen (Faith Formations); Sophia Galway (Arts and Crafts), and Sofia Campos (Life Guard) gave campers lots of fun and time to grow naturally. Thanks as well to Aiden and Isaac for helping Carly with Outdoor Life this summer.

Our Counselors, some with lots of camping experience and some with very little, all worked together in this year when breaks were harder to fit in (due to Covid restrictions) and campers still needed all the connections and care of every summer. THANK YOU Aiden Stewart, Colby Buch, Isaac Ross, Jeanna Pickering, Justin Knox, Justin Thompson and Mallory Grant (Aug).  They pulled together for all the usual challenges a summer camp season offers as well as some others! Way to go Team Abby 2021!!

Our CITs were small in number this year as we awaited word from the Public Health office about our numbers. THANK YOU  Addi Chandler, Laurel Wigmore, Mallory Grant (July) and Oscar Cormier. We hope you’ll continue your Leadership growth and join us again as Staff one day.  Remember if your camper/s will be 14 by next July they can apply to be a CIT. Watch our Facebook page for news next year.

With lots of Abby gratitude for our Staff and Campers!

Week 1: Opening Day Photo’s

click on the photo to view full screen.

Yesterday we welcomed our first campers of 2021!! Here are some photo’s from throughout the day.

(Above - Bottom Right) The staff have a quick meeting, before the first expected campers arrive.

Maddy & Vic ready to welcome campers for the start of Week 1!!!

Once all the campers arrived, the staff did introductions in the Rec Center and went over a few rules.

As our summer gets underway, we want to recognize that we are incredibly grateful to be able to open our doors this summer. Many camps across Canada and North America are unable to open due to COVID-19.

Thanks to the efforts of volunteers like Bob Hutcheson our camp will continue to provide a camp experience for children. Bob spearheaded our Endowment Fund Campaign a few years ago. The fund is approx. $70,000.00 away from the $500,000.00 goal Bob set.

Recently Spring Park United in Charlottetown interviewed Bob, and we wanted to share it with you.

You can find the whole service on Spring Park United’s Youtube, where they show this video, and our Board Chair presents Bob Hutcheson with a plaque as a thank you gift for the incredible work he has done for the camp.

Click Here to watch the service.

Supper time!! That means it’s time to learn the first grace of the week.

Following supper and some free time, campers and counslors return the Rec Center for a game of “Minute to Win it.”

Click on a photo to view full screen.

Following a game of “Minute to Win it,” it was time for our evening routine of Vespers, Campfire, Snack, and night game.

Be sure you’re following us on Facebook & Instagram and notifications turned on, so you don’t miss any new photo’s posted throughout the week.

Packing List

If you've never sent your child to camp, or it's been a few years. You might not be sure what to pack? That's why we have a packing list available for you to view and download.

It's important to note our packing list has been updated due to COVID-19.

Glossary (New)

At Camp Abby, like many camps, we have our lingo and different names for places around camp. That's why we've created a glossary of words and phrases your child will hear when they come to camp.

Schedule (New)

We've added a sample of our daily schedule at camp to help give you a better sense of day-to-day activities.
