Capital Campaign

This summer Camp Abegweit is turning 80 years old.  This is an exciting time for everyone involved and many events are planned to celebrate.  Children come to Camp Abby for a week of camping that has created many memories for them.  Many of the campers return year after year.  Many of our former campers have become staff and Board members which testifies to the amazing experiences they have had. 

With aging comes the need to upgrade facilities.  The current standalone washroom (the red bathrooms) and shower house buildings are original to the property.  As far as anyone can tell they were built in the 1970’s.  They have served the Camp well for 50(ish) years.  However, the time has come to replace these aging buildings.  Tenders have been sent out, and the cost will be close to $700,000.  

 Besides the aging facilities the Board is concerned with the lack of wheelchair accessibility we have at camp.  We do have one accessible washroom onsite but no accessible shower.  This causes limitations to who can come to our Camp.

The Board of Directors are seeking donors to assist in our capital campaign.  There will be various levels of donations that people can choose to participate in.  All donors will receive a tax receipt, have their names on a commemorative plaque and be acknowledged in our 2026 annual report.  The plaque will be permanently displayed on the side of the new building.

The plan is to break ground on October 1, 2026, with a completion date of May 31, 2027. 

Once the building is completed all donors will be invited to Camp Abegweit for a special time of recognition and getting to see the building before the public.
